Not true. The quality improves, but the release prices stay about the same. In fact, after inflation, they drop. Examples:

5D: $3,300 (2005) = $3,890 in 2012$
5D3: $3,500 (2012)

24-70: $2,100 (2002) = $2,480 in 2012$
24-70 II: $2,300 (2012)

That's all well and good, but Nikon has managed to maintain their prices and in some cases lower them....on newer and SIGNIFICANTLY better devices.
