nx-r

i feel like there hasn't been much discussion about samsung's upcoming cameras next year. if there's already been a thread and i missed it sorry

So no new NX cameras this year, but it has been stated samsung will release the NX1000 successor, NX300 and NX-R in the first half of 2013

At first I was hesitant about the potential for putting Android on NX cameras. Android to spice up the compact market? Sure. Android adding functionality to more serious cameras? I wasn't sure.

But after watching some videos of the new Samsung Galaxy camera, it looks pretty good. Obviously physical controls for quick changes is always best, but considering the changes to the interface, screen, processing power, etc. that the use of Android brought to the compact, perhaps Samsung can optimize such graphical UIs for more serious shooters. Also, stronger processing power/buffer would be very nice, although I'm not necessarily saying it has to have Android on it to justify that bump in processing hardware.

I also wonder how the NX-R will be done. I really hope Samsung recognizes why people looked forward to it so much- it resembled a retro, premium type body in a small package, much like the appeal of Fuji's X cameras. I really want them to develop it as an incognito power pack. A camera void of any frills of Android or prettier but slower UIs, but instead fully functional, designed well, and basically the body Samsung needs to attract attention.

I hope it's not just a premium spin off of the NX200.
