link: some SPP basics

Can you start a thread on how you use SPP for a standard single shot? The DP Merrill cameras have forced a number of new users to work with SPP -- speaking as one of them, I still don't know how to properly process a single exposure. The eyedropper behavior is weirdly sticky; the WB setting is limited to six presets with no tweaking; the Color Adjustment control controls what I think of, perhaps naively, as WB; I can't figure out exactly which parts of the luminance range are affected by the sliders, and whether these change the white point or the black point; etc.

I've written often on my workflow in SPP FWIW, some starters here

Is there a primer on using SPP?

yes, it's on the software itself, under the Help menu.

especially good for understanding the 'bullets' and using the colorwheel.... which you can do via eyedropper and/or moving the point manually with the directional keys on your keyboard.

another tip I often think of: use the colormodes in conjunction with white balances. For example, for a lot of my editing (greens, landscapes, vegetation) sunlight wb might be too yellow. But then auto wb + landscape colormode gets me to a point in between. Landscape colormode can be VERY nice. I generally use standard colormode. Kendall writes he prefers neutral. Vivid is usually too wild except for some ISO800 photo you're trying to spice up the color..... Portrait... I don't do portraits, I don't use it.

SPP is a lot more powerful than many new users give it credit for. I find it acts a lot like Canon's DPP for what that's worth.... I had no trouble starting off with DPP; DPP users shouldn't have any trouble with Sigma's SPP.... but look at the manual.
Best regards, Sandy
