Hi! I actually not agree that Olympus 45mm is much better option. Please do not forget that it have 10 time higher price. Can the picture be then times better?
So, there are several versions of the lenses.

Helios 44-2 (most popular) have pre-set aperture ring and it is only single coated.

Helios 44M-X (X-can be 4,5,6,7) same version with manual / auto aperture switch. Higher number means higher resolution. (Marking was made after outgoing inspection based on the actual result). Multi coated versions marked with MC letters.
Almost all lenses have M42 mount (Pentax-K also available).

Helios 44-3 - version made in Belarus (Minsk) and have slightly different construction - still nice.

Note: all photos made with Olympus E-PL1, so Om-D EM-5 should do better...
