having been in manufacturing for years, I believe that the 6D features are a result of marketing dept decisions, not true manufacturing costs. the cost of one sensor over another plays into cost, so would processor choice, but once you have the processor, sensor, and chassis built, many of the refinements that are lacking probably did not save Canon much at all, costs-wise.

It's about product differentiation imho, and Canon decided to strip some things away that they could have left onboard. Maybe their industrial spy network isn't as strong as it once was, or they would have known what the D600 represented ?
