Thanks for that link, which does seem to establish that the G5 sensor has the extra unused width. (My apologies for not reading every single recent thread and post on this forum before raising the question!)

So, squeezing value out of an established production line it is! In that case, I much prefer the Olympus approach of using the best sensor available to it across the whole 2012 m4/3 product line: EM5, EPL5, and EPM2.

Smaller lenses, better in low light, more telephoto reach:
