It's similar

The AF speed of both lenses on my Nex-7 is similar which means a bit slugish especially in low light/contrast situations.

The SEL50 is ideal for portraits - it has nice smooth rendering with rich colors and can definitely isolate subjects better than the Sigma.

Having a toddler of my own, neither of the lenses are ideal but can still do the job in most cases (I use them for 90% of my kids pics). For those very challenging situations (action, low light), I usually go with the LA-EA2 adapter and fast alpha glass (35/1.8, 85/2.8 and similar) which would track focus very fast.
