Yes, you have to look at the rear screen. However, the MSS should have been set before you started shooting. So that shouldn't be an issue. That's why so many people use it...despite being a pain to change (although MyMenu + Func button makes it much easier) if you just set it before you start shooting, the benefit is easily worth the effort.
