A CMOS censor can be just as good as a quality CCD censor, but it costs a lot more to design such a thing (CMOS = high development costs, lower production costs; CCD = inexpensive to design, slightly more expensive to manufacture). Sony (or Canon etc.) CMOS sensors are a compromise between quality and development costs. If Leica didn't cheap out on their new CMOS censor, it can be just as good or better than the Kodak CCD. We'll see...
