CF cards are the oldest storage format still in use today. SD is really the direction the industry is headed as a whole, and Canon has been moving in that direction for some time. They started with the Rebel line and have been moving up steadly introducing it into higher end models.

If you look at Canon Camcorders, they have all migrated to SD except the very top end models.

BTW, they should have included dual SD card slots.
