Jon, I like your first idea of going with the A-57 and the 16-50. Add to that the 70-300G and you have quite a combination. You could always substitute the Tamron 17-50 should you wish to save a bit more. Or you could substitute the 70-400G for the 70-300G. Either way you'll have a FF long lens for later. You mentioned sports, so you may want to skip the 70-300G for a 70-200mm by a third party. Then should you decide you need more, just purchase FF lenses from here on out. Later you could always upgrade to the FF with out a loss as you can still use your APSC lens and the A-99 does compensate in the viewfinder for these lenses.
