Re: My definition of a P&S

The RX1 doesn't have zoom, so by MY definition, it is not a P&S.

Hmmmm....seems to me that any "fairly compact" camera set on AUTO is a point and shoot by your definition. That takes in a lot of territory, and the RX1 would definitely qualify.

A $3000 point and shoot? You have got to be kidding me.

My definition of P&S camera: built-in flash, zoom, fairly compact, and where the potential audience will rarely take the dial off "fully automatic". The price is not a factor - P&S users can be billionaires who have better things to do with their time than to learn photography.

Therefore, the RX1 is not a P&S.

However, a P&S user is just as entitled to great image quality as anyone else. One of the major changes in photography in the last decade has been the increase in the results along with a decrease in the effort required, and this looks to accelerate as software plays a greater & greater role in the years ahead.
