Nikon 105mm f/2 DC vs Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Marco

Hi everyone,

I know it an odd question and it may not be justifiable to compare these two lenses, but I am looking for a good portrait lens (head+shoulder) for my Nikon D90. I have looked around and found lots of praises about these two lenses.

Nikon 105mm DC is more portrait oriented, costs more but is liked by many people and has really good reviews about it.

Tamron 90mm Marco is mainly for macro work (obviously) but I have read (and seen pictures) people using it for portrait work as well. Its less costly than Nikon one and also has good reviews.

Now my question is which one to get for portraits?

Focal length on DX body is almost equal (135 vs 142ish). The main difference is f/2 vs f/2.8.

Do you guys really recommend f/2 over f/2.8 for portrait work?

I have seen tons of images from both these lenses on D90 and read reviews but still cannot decide which one to get. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
