Competition, yes. Real danger, no.

I have a lot invested in M4/3s equipment and love the format, but I was wondering if the new Sony cameras will pose a realistic threat to advancements of M4/3s? I really hope not but some are speculating that it will.

Not just the 6, but the overall Sony line has a lot going for it. Looks as if within a year or so they will have a very well integrated lineup of mirrorless and SLT cameras in both APS and FF models. Overall I think they have the best grasp on the future of photography of any camera maker.

Do you need to worry? Not much. M4/3 is not going to suddenly disappear from the earth. For now I think Panasonic and Olympus have the lead in the mirrorless market and they will not give it up easily. Maybe 2 or 3 years from now you need to worry, but not for now. And none of us know what 3 years will bring, especially in a field as changeable as digital photography.
