I bought the 28mm 1.8 in July

hand held fireworks shot. Would have been much better with tripod!

Example of sunstars due to the len's 7 blade diaphram. Can't wait till Christmas!

For the most part I really like it. It is spectacular for portraits in soft indirect light. It is not as sharp as my 50mm 1.8 or my new 70-300 4-5.6L though. The focal length is great for a crop. I use this on a 7D. Focus is fast and quiet. Build quality is really good (better than kit lenses). Weaknesses would be that it doesn't like harsh direct light and it is a little soft wide open but this can be an advantage for portraits.
