This may not be only lens focusing somewhere else. You also might have a body that is miscalibrated and it sends a perfectly fine lens into wrong position.

This happens when the light path to the imager sensor is not harmonized with the light path to the AF sensors (as they are in different places).

So there may be more places where the focusing error may be introduced. You could even "fix" the focusing error by calibrating originally a good lens to the incorrectly focusing camera.

Is this something configurable? Or is this something that require sending the equipment to manufacturer?

Some bodies have this "micro focus adjustment", but this doesn't solve that many situations as when you send the lens/camera to the manufacturer for the service.

And some bodies don't even have it and require sending the equipment to the manufacturer in every case of AF problems.
