Disappointed from the last outing with E-M5 and 40-150

I like to photograph commercial air planes. I used to have a Canon T2i+70-200 F/4 lens and indeed it was a winning combo for this purpose. I have not been happy with the results from the E-M5 and 40-150. I uploaded a few shots and I would appreciate some advice on how to make them better. The one thing that bothered me the most was the dark shadow areas especially where the landing gear is and the belly of the planes. The second thing that bothered me was the lack of sharpness.

The photos were only cropped in LR4, no other adjustments were made. I read a lot that the E-M5 masters the details in shadows, but I cannot see the evidence in my photos. They also lack the sharpness I was used to from the 70-200L F/4.

I shot them all at the following settings:

  • WB: Sunny

  • Focus point: Centre

  • Aperture mode with value set to F/8

  • ISO: 200

  • Exposure: Center Weight
