Here is the problem with your question (and any similar old vs new question), there will always be people who think the old one is good enough and some who think new one is better. The real question is about financial means to purchase one. It's very simple. It's either you have money or you don't have money. Of course a new version of something will always be better and of course it will be worth the price, but can you afford it? If yes, go buy the new one, if no, buy the old one, or maybe just don't buy an L lens to begin with if you are stretching your budget.
