Soft 50/1.4

I just bought a Minolta 50/1.4... For just 30$ !!!
I was extremely happy with the deal until taking some pictures with it.

I found my pictures relatively soft... And under my expectations for such a lens.

I just did a rapid test today to try to find out what is wrong with my pictures...
I am not sure that the quality of the test is the best way to go…

Placed 5 equidistant batteries as:
Central one (battery in focus) is at 48cm
The nearest (extreme right) at a distance of 45cm
The distant (extreme left) at a distance of 51cm

Used my A55 on tripod
JPEG out of the camera

Used aperture mode with different values:
F/1.4, 2.0, 2.8, 4.0
Auto ISO

Single point focus
4 first pictures: Central focus point (with F/1.4, 2.0, 2.8, 4.0)
5th picture: central right focus point (with f/2)
6th picture: central left focus point (with f/2)

From my perspective… I see a slight backfocus (focus seems to be between the central and the one on its left) …

But still something else is wrong with the results… Or perhaps I am just thinking something wrong…

Thanks in advance for your help and feedbacks…
Cyrus

Central left and right points at F2.0
