Re: Phil get a proper kit to clean your sensor, but...

Why do you want to put a serious piece of gear at risk to save some money which in the scheme of things isn't that much. Using a blower is pretty normal, again flip the mirror up in cleaning mode and with a blower you can purchase from a camera shop, blow on the sensor.

There are more effective systems out there.

But unless you have mud caked on to your sensor, it isn't the sensor that is blowing focus. Could you describe in more detail the problem and post a couple of pics with the data included, f stop, shutter speed, ISO, lens, etc.

It's the AF sensor that I suspect is dusty, not the main sensor. Looking at the AF sensor, it looks like regular cleaning could be a challenge since the sensor looks like it's angled towards the back of the camera and only accessible through 3 small holes.

It's not appropriate for me to post the photos up since they are portraits of my friends and their children. I can tell you that I set the camera to M-mode, EF-S 18-200IS, F4.0, 1/125 ss, ISO800, bounce flashed with lightscoop.

I'll see if things improve after flipping the camera upside down before resorting to more invasive methods.
