I asked Nikon Technical Support for a quote to do this and they came back and said it was around £150, which isn't too excessive. However it came with a caveat that the movement of the lens would be further restricted as a result of this change. Are you categorically saying that completing the orientation change does nothing to harm any existing movement of mechanics of the lens?
Obviously, you do this at your own risk. I carefully followed the instructions that were posted on the online video and have been since using the lens daily for more than a year with no problem. On my lens there is no restriction of movement in any direction fully tilted or fully shifted or any combination of both. My experience is that it works perfectly.
