If you're shooting mainly in good daylight, and not working for Nat. Geo., you should be very happy with the results you are able to get with your SX40. I am still amazed at the IQ capabilities of it. My frustrations lie in the disappointing quality of the EVF, and the LCD, to a lessor degree. Shots always end up better when viewed later on the computer, then they appear on the LCD review. Many, many keepers.

Now shooting sports is another story. But other than for fast action sports, the SX40 is a real winner.
