I have, after many months of "playing with" the different Linux distros, have picked a favorite, and installed it on all of the systems that I use (even my seldom used Netbook).

I do ALL of my email, and web-surfing, and forum reading in Firefox in linux. (Lubuntu).

That pretty much sums it up what you really can do with a Linux PC.

Now now. Are you saying you have never tried digiKam? digiKam has been my prefered image editor/DAM application bar none. It is really outstanding.

I use Linux for everything. Multimedia is handled very well by several applications. Amarok is my preferred music player. Have you tried it? While it is true that many of Linux programs have slowly worked their way to Windows (gimp, Audacity, Clementine, etc.) One thing that is still much nicer in Linux is the multiple desktop interface. It makes multitasking a much more pleasant and productive way to work.

For the things that 99% of users need, Linux has excellent applications available.
