FZ200 Vs FZ150 Vs G11

I spent a good part of the afternoon on a gray and rainy day taking series of shot of a full size MacBeth Color Checker with these three cameras. Most were shot wide open at moderate focal length (I was about 3' away) with the Panasonics both set to sharpening +1, NR -2, and the G11 at sharpening +2 because of very soft default settings. Shots were taken from base ISO to ISO 3200.

Just a few observations. The noise levels on the Canon are the lowest, and color stays about the same to 3200. The FZ150 and FZ200 show noticeable color shift at ISO 3200, and noticeably more noise artifacts. The FZ200 has less visible noise and NR artifacts; but also a little less detail than the FZ150. This was at f/2.8 on the FZ200 and f/3.2 on the 150. This is at a moderate focal length. Tomorrow, I'll try it at f/5.6 and at some different focal lengths.

I did find something interesting in the FZ150. Going from ISO 100 to 200 to 400, at f/3.2, rgw shutter speed doubled as the ISO doubled. But between 400 & 800 it went from 1/50 to 1/80. Then at 1600 and 3200 it went to 1/160 and 1/320. The FZ200 had accurate 2:1 shutter speeds all the way up. So that the FZ200 is 1/3 stop faster from 800 and up. In other words, ISO 600 is accurately rated on the FZ200 and the FZ150 is really at ISO 1250. The G11 also had 2:1 shutter speeds all the way.

More tomorrow.
