7D AF: Closed Loop when using PD?
Can someone who knows help me on this one? I've read somewhere that it used to be that Canon cameras when using phase detection for AF were not "closed loop", i.e. the camera would measure the setting for the lens motor to achieve AF and then tell the lens to set focus based on that number. But once the lens reported back to the camera that it had moved the lens elements according to that number, there was not a second measurement to confirm that focus had actually been achieved (excuse my very uneducated language on this one). Has the 7D always been "closed loop" or is this something that maybe FW 2.0 has introduced (which could explain some people reporting not MFA is required anymore)?
