Most TV shows were shot on 35mm stock, perhaps you're thinking of how they were distributed to local TV stations when in syndication.

Personally, I like film better and studies show it is cheaper to store a movie shot on film than digitally shot.

When we get to 12k capture, I might prefer digital.
