The distortion correction is embedded in the RAWs as well as an instruction to be carried out by the RAW converter. Some RAW converters (probably most or all commercial ones, e.g., Silkypix or LR) carry out that instruction without telling you about it. Other RAW converters (e.g. dcraw) won't do it.
