Southern Africa Safari Equipment Question

I am going on a tour of southern Africa in three weeks. It includes game drives at Kruger and Chobe. It is my understanding that we will be in Range Rover-type vehicles with open tops (seating three across each row). Based on some internet research, it appears that the best approach for photography in this type of vehicle is to use a monopod and possibly clamp it to the railings on the vehicle. I will generally be using an NEX-5N with the origiinal Sony 18-200mm lens.

My questions are:

1. Is this the best approach? If so, do you have any recommendations as to an affordable clamp that would work. I am thinking of getting a Sirui carbon fiber monopod.

2. I already have a Sirui travel tripod. Might this work in these types of vehicles?

3. Is there any realistic possiblity of taking video in addition to pictures?

4. Do you have any other suggestions (aside from enjoying the tour)?
