The bigger question: Has Nikon abandoned "Pro" DX bodies?

I'm sure the concept is completely alien to most of the sensor-obsessed people here at dpreview, but "some" working photographers actually prefer DX bodies.

My Nikon workhorse is still the D2X. Yes, it's got old sensor tech by 2012 standards but it's still a very capable camera below ISO 1600 and it's a professional-grade camera. Although the D300s is the current flagship DX format professional camera, the D2X (and D2Xs) was arguably the last time Nikon viewed the DX format "seriously" as a tool for working photographers.

I really wish Nikon made a DX-format camera with a 24-megapixel sensor (with 8fps burst shooting at full resolution) in a D4-style body. I would buy that camera to replace my D2X in a heartbeat.
