buy an inexpensive charger for any cameras that I buy that don't include an external charger. If you don't shoot a lot you may not need to buy one but the SLB-11a is a fairly small battery and has run down several times while I was out shooting. No harm done since I usually put another 1 or 2 batteries in my camera case. If you only have one battery, your EX1 will be out of action for the several hours needed to recharge the battery.
I wouldn't shoot more than a couple of hundred in a day and then I just leave it plugged in after downloading, and its ready for the next day. I only shoot for leasure and holidays etc so no stress for me. The one battery I have has never even showed the lowest bar on the charge scale in two years of use, so I find it completely adequate.
