If you are willing to learn by reading books and online tutorials, you can learn most of the technical aspects there. Then, practice, practice and practice more. Photography classes are hit and miss. I have been to a 4-hour class for a specific topic, still life photography, and it was great. I have also been to a generic class run by a university and taught by a 'pro' and it was terrible. The problem with that class is the the teacher who thinks himself as an artist but he is not very good at it.
