It seems your preferences are formed, and you should follow them. The ergonomics of the D300 are better, but this is primarily of interest to the heavy sports or wildlife shooter. For more infrequent photography the D7000's ergonomics are fine. And the high ISO IQ is (IS) substantially better.

BTW, I did just that, and both the pluses and minuses of the potential swap are borne of experience.
