Yesterday I got my new Nikon D800E S/N: 3006XXX, the local store received a new batch from Nikon last Friday, so it's a newly built camera. Tested with all my lenses:

  • Nikon 50 f/1.8G

  • Nikon 85 f/1.8G

  • Nikon 105 f/2.8G

  • Nikon 28-300 f/3.5-5.6G

None of the Lenses required any AF-Fine Tune adjustment, meaning AF-Fine Tune is OFF. All of the Lenses were reasonable sharp at Center, Right and Left AF Points, the only exception was the 28-300 at some high focal lengths ( > 100mm) that was just a little bit Out of focus.

Just as a reference, I've done the same tests, multiple times before with 3 D800 (S/N: 302XXXX, 304XXXX, 305XXXX), and I had Left AF issues with ALL the lenses all the time.

C learly this D800E is a winner, and there is hope that Nikon might have finally resolved the Left AF problems.

I had one of the very first D800e's of the line and it performs superbly couldn't be more pleased, also my D800 early model is fine so maybe the percentages of getting a good one are much higher than many of us are being led to expect.
