I'm going to vote with the masses here and push the Nikon 70-300 VR. Owned one for a few years now, and it's my favorite for just about any telephoto zoom stuff. It's a keeper. And the price is right.

It's my second most used lens outside of the 18-105 kit lens on the D7000... Been to the beaches of Cancun and the presidential heads of Mt. Rushmore. Love it. This isn't in Nikon's "pro" lineup, but it's a very solid performer.
