EX1/TL50: Newbie's Questions - S Mode, Zoom Overdrive, Flash Compensation

Hi. Neighbor just dropped me an EX1-F / TL 500 to play with and it could be mine for a schnitzel. I got it without any manual. I am not even sure if a manual is necessary, still some things baffle me (experienced with Canon and Panasonic cameras). Aware that EX1-F / TL 500 got tested on DPR. Sorry if my questions came up before:

Shutter Priority

In S mode, i cannot at all change the shutter speed with the wheel on the back. It seems stuck eternally at 1/45th. I don’t see any way to get away from there, no matter what ISO or light conditions. (In A mode, i can change the aperture like i am used to.)

Zoom Overdrive

I see i can zoom beyond the physical limits. Does that mean re-calculating the pixels, i.e. blowing it up senselessly? Or could you zoom by cropping, i.e. just using a part of the sensor? (While setting the cam maybe to 7 or 5 Megapixels.)

I’d love to prohibit any zoom overdrive that just blows up pixels. Is it possible to un-allow it? On the other hand, i’d love to zoom-by-cropping, like the EZ zoom on Panasonic (aware that i could crop later as well).

Exposure Compensation
Only possible via menu obviously, not via physical button?

Record Review

Having taken a picture, i’d love the pic to remain on the screen infinitely until i press the Snap button (a mode sometimes called „Hold“). It seems the EX1-F / TL 500 wouldn’t do that (unlike other cams)? To see the image just taken longer than 3 secs, i’d always be pressed to press the Review button?

Flash Compensation?

I didn’t find a flash compensation like „make the flash 1+1/3 stops weaker than the automatic would have it“. I find that essential on other cams. Or is it there?

Image Quality

From this forum i gather that you should take raw images and convert them. I very much do like JPEGs out of the box and do like to save memory while traveling. On Canon or Panasonic, i do take JPEGs, sometimes not even in super-fine. If taking JPEGs on the Samsung EX1-F, is super-fine advantageous? (In real life, super fine is not advantageous on some other cameras, even so people who never tested it claim so.)

Memory Card

If i stick with the EX1-F / TL 500, which would be the biggest-capacity memory card available? Which speed/class should it have (i have no special interest in video and neither in fast sequences, so don’t need the fastest card). Would you recommend another kind of card for the EX2F? (I wouldn’t you the better video there.)

If i kept the EX1-F / TL 500, i’d like to use a wide angle or tele converter as well, if you have recommendations (and if you know if it’s the same filter adapter for the EX2F). Would also like to hear your other secrets.

Also i might return the EX1-F / TL 500 to the neighbor and instead get the upcoming EX2F, if it has any advantages over the predecessor in the fields mentioned above (am aware of the EX2F’s spec sheet).

Thanks for your experience!
