Re: Going to Italy...24-85VR or 24-70 2.8 or 28-300 VR?

I have been to Italy and France several times on family vacations. While there, I only had a D300 (since upgraded to the D800).

Anyhow, I think you need a wide lens and a fast lens for the indoor church & building shots. I traveled with a 10-24mm DX and my 17-55mm F2.8 and used the 17-55mm most of the time.

Right now I have the 28-300 and the 24-120mm. I don't have the 24-85mm but the review on it were that it is good for the price, but its a budget lens.

If you can, I would go for the 24-120mm. It is reasonably fast and has good IQ, better than the 28-300mm, and lighter and faster. You can shoot the 24-120mm at F4 and get good shots whereas the 28-300 needs to be stopped down a little.

You will have a great trip. Just pack light and keep your equipment with you at all times.
