I finally noticed the small slits on the top and bottom sides of my generic filter adapter. I'm thinking my generic is a Chinese knockoff of the one by Canon, so they are probably nearly identical in construction. However, I don't see this as an issue. Just avoid bright sunlight shining directly on the slits. That should be easy enough to do by ensuring that your body or some other object casts a shadow on the back of the filter device.

I would avoid the temptation to use tape to cover the slits.The slits are probably there for a reason such as preventing condensation.
