Very true. And I would guess that a good number of us who think we "need" an ILC would likely get very similar output with a good P&S.

But, for those of us who like to fiddle about with different lenses and try different style shots and techniques the opportunity to use multiple lenses is really what creates the high level of interest and ultimately the enjoyment of the hobby. Let's face it, for most amateur enthusiasts captured images are not the motivating factor. They are a nice side benefit, and maybe a solid justification, but the the hobby is more about the process of capturing those images.
