Re: Any metering issues with the 5D3?

My 5D3 seems to be more heavily biased towards the AF point used than my other Canon DSLR's in evaluative metering mode. I've heard a lot of complaints about the 5D3 not having spot metering linked to the active AF point like the 1D series. Well, I think we almost have it in evaluative.

Today I took a shot of a building with +1/3 in AV mode and ACR 7 auto tone pulled it back by 2.20 stops. I had the active AF point on a very dark black awning on the building. I didn't think about it at the time, but this is one of the things you have to learn about the way the 5D3 meters. My contention is it is not underexposure bias, it just seems to behave almost like a spot meter. You should definitely try evaluative mode and pay attention to the brightness of the area at the active AF point, because it makes a big difference in how the scene will meter.
