Probert, for goodness' sake in this thread flint-hill has located an RC2-type clamp and plate for 10 dollars ? Why would anyone care whether or not the future is bright for that "system"? What the heck "investment" are you worried about losing? And since when do clamps and plates become obsolete, anyway? It's not like you're buying a Yugo car that is going to need ongoing service and repair.

Also your exhortation to go Arca-Swiss does not acknowledge the obvious safety advantage of the RC2 system, that the plate is "captured" by a sprung lever (that often does not even need to be touched for further tightening) as soon as you place the camera-with-plate down on the clamp. My cameras over the years had fallen more times than can count, off of Arca-Swiss screw-type clamps that were invisibly loose. Should have switched sooner to RC2 (or now tiny KPS) clamps.

Are you same guy who is weighing the plates and shaving them? OCD much?

Just reflecting my experience as a professional photographer.
