I have an old 400D, and rather than sell it off, I would like to use it as a general carry anywhere camera.

I've seen an old Canon lens , the EF 28-80 USM going for about £70. This is the one with the metal mount, similar to the style of the EF 28-135 IS lens.

I don't wish to spend anymore than about £100.

So would this be a good buy or would you recommend anything else in my price range.
I did think of the Canon EF-S 55-250 but but like something wider if possible.

Canon , sigma, tamron etc, not bothered

For something different (and small), try the 40/2.8 (or 50/1.8). Being restricted to one focal length can be educational and fun. ...and this combo is easier to slip into a bag or large pocket.
