The 18-35 was my first wide angle on my D700 and I liked it a lot - the small light build made it much easier to maneuver. I always regret parting with it - - same goes for all my lenses, but we move on!

Here are a few from a while back that I might hesitate to go for or not have the range for with my 12-24.. maybe.. The first 4 are all taken on the fly as it were, and the lens is supremely light and flickable, with fast enough focusing for my needs. The last was taken with the camera on a tripod hung out of the car and I'd be reluctant to try it with a heavy lens.
