D300 on the fritz

I have been using my D300 for the last 5 years and recently while photographing my sons All-Star team during play-offs the shutter was locking in the open position every 4th or 5th frame during 8 FPS usage. It's been treated well but used extensively. My question is, is it worth getting it fixed or should I buy a new or gently used one? I didn't have the greatest experience with Nikon service last time, feeling like I was gouged. Am I right in assuming it has something to do with the shutter mechanism?

BTW, it has performed flawlessly for five years and I have nothing but praise for the product.
