In Hong Kong, the K-30 bodies have already been discounted to $AU640.
The same trader is selling the E-M5 body for $AU1,016.
You see? It is not always about price.

The K-30 is MUCH cheaper, has a larger sensor and still sells less units than the E-M5.

The situation for Pentax has been for years, that they need to sell DSLRs well below market price levels from competition to keep up (moderate) sales targets.

For years, Olympus was in the same situation with 43-DSLRs, but Oly seem to have broken out from this qua their m43 offerings.

Yes, now Olympus is selling m4/3 cameras well below market price levels from competition.

Now, users/buyers might love those priced-under-competition cameras from Pentax.

As a business plan for Ricoh, however, it does not work. At all. As a low-volume manufacturer, Ricoh/Pentax have relative high production costs and they will need to develop cameras and lenses that stand out more and that are able to fetch prices comparable to or above the competition.

That's not their plan, and I'd suggest checking the prices.
