Companies usually don't throw away well-established brand names just for the heck of it. The name "Ricoh" has little, if any, standing in the photography market whereas Pentax certainly does. Ford didn't rename Jaguars and Volvos as Lincolns. Sears still uses Kenmore and Craftsman. An even better example -- America West choose to keep the US Airways name instead of their own when they made that acquisition.

For every example you mention here, I could name dozens with the opposite outcome.

Ricoh's top management must be doing some deep thinking with what they are really up to with the acquisition of Pentax imaging - and they have a lot of work carved out ... developing sustainable product lines, securing and expanding sales channels, making a solid return on investment at the end of the day.

All such efforts ... on behalf of another company's brand? I just don't see it happening.
