Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6. Small, dense, well built.

I've handled the 17-55 several times, and went for the Sigma 17-50 f2.8. Small, dense, well built. None of that hollow plastic shell that seems larger than it needs to be. Smooth and tight operation. The 17-55 has a funky feeling zoom that's not linear, and some suffer from lens creep (not the one I've used). It's still a fine lens though, just a bit overpriced and oversized.

I got the Sigma 10-20 as a temporary solution over 5 years ago. It's still not replaced, and I've had lots of opportunities as I can hand it off to my company. I got it to shoot interiors, then fell in love with it for everything else.

uncorrected JPEG straight out of camera. It's only improved with my 60D, but I don't have any samples that aren't architectural yet.
