Which is why we (thankfully) have Sony's RX100 and Canon's G1x, who both seem to have blindsided Samsung and Panasonic.

However, the LX7 appears to be the one of the two designed for photography, rather than gadgetry. Look at the direct access to focusing modes, for instance.

More pros use the LX3 and LX5 than Samsung.

The small sensors in the LX3/5 , EX1 and other compacts using similar sized sensors are all very good and you'd be extremely hard pressed to see the negligeable diferences between them , even at full pixel level but the fact is they are getting long in the tooth with the gadget crazy crowd that constantly looks forward to the magic of something new to offset their lack of shooting skills. Those slightly larger but still tiny sensors in these upper end compacts are pretty much maxed out with regards to anything significantly better than they currently can provide and they have now turned to CMOS BSI and a faster lens for a significant gain in speed , low ISO, and better video.

So far the samples of the LX7 are good but not anything really significant , surprising ,or groundbreaking and neither will anything from the EX2F be.

Pre-ordering can be taking a chance but based on the past IQ performance of the excellent EX1 it's hard to think they would follow it with one that's worse.

In the case of the LX5 it definitely was a much better all around camera to shoot with compared to the LX3 but IQ didn't improve , being pretty much the same. Folks think every new model is gonna be a giant step up but it almost always comes only in small increments .

Any significant improvements to either the LX5 or EX1 will have to include a new and larger sensor and even that will cause a lot of hairsplitting comparisons at full pixel level nit picking which in most cases won't have any significant effect in print especially at most popular print sizes.
