Canon 60d as first DSLR???????

28mm and 75-300mm doesn't give you much/any wide angle field of view on the small sensor of the 60D. The 28mm gives you field of view like 45 mm lens on 35mm film. That's about the magnification provided by the human eye (eye's FOV is technically much wider but that's another issue), IIRC.

If you're OK with that, then there's nothing wrong with that kit.

If you want conventional wide-angle FOV on an APS-C, you'll need to get down to around 18 - 24mm at the wide end, like an 18-55 zoom
