St. Petersburg -- NYET!!!
Sorry for your loss, it seems to be common these days. I had the same experience on Nevsky Prospect in St. Petersburg when 4 men stole my D90, along with over 500 pics. I got a police report (in Russian) and submitted it to my insurance company. After my deductible, I got a few hundred dollars. There are a couple of web sites that can track photo exif data if it is ever posted on the web, but after 2 years, I have seen nothing. Most of these criminals know not to post or send to Nikon for repair. They just steal another one as a replacement.
Now when I travel I replace my SDHC Cards daily so I won't lose photos if my equipment is stolen or otherwise damaged. I use 4 or 8 GB cards that are about $10-15 each, a small price to pay to ensure photos.
For about $20 per year I obtained full replacement coverage on my new D90, 16-85, 70-300, and 2 P&S Nikons. I would advise everyone to obtain this coverage as it is a bargain.
