My Lumix 12-35mm is Probably Going Back - But Not Because of Quality

I purchased the new Lumix 12-35mm f2.8 lens, and tested it over a long weekend. I think the image quality is quite good. And, I must admit, it's nice to not have to change lenses much.

However, I think the long end of the zoom range is a little short for my tastes, and it's tough to get great shallow depth of field. I'm certainly spoiled by my excellent Lumix primes. I would rather carry the 14mm f2.5, 20mm f1.7 (or 25mm f1.4), and 45mm f2.8 than deal with f2.8 at all focal lengths. I guess in the end, the tradeoff in depth of field and slight decrease in image quality compared to the primes isn't worth it.

When there's plenty of light, I would prefer to use the 14-140mm f4-5.8.

I've posted on this on my blog, and a second post comes up tomorrow morning.

So, I'm afraid this lens just isn't for me. But, I'm not knocking quality at all. It is a very nice lens, and I'm sure plenty of people will make great images with it.
